There are various ways - and combinations thereof - to secure your property. A well-known one is of course the alarm system. This often contains visible and hidden parts. But how does an alarm system work? What does it consist of and what is its exact use? We've listed it all for you:
- Central computer: An alarm system involves a central computer, which is placed in the meter cupboard or another central location. You can see this as the connection system between all components, such as the sensors, security cameras and the control room. Nowadays this is often replaced by an app. Does your system use cables? The central computer is then also responsible for powering the sensors.
- Control panel: nowadays it can take different forms. All notifications are received via this and the entire system can be switched on and off with it. Are there disruptions to your telephone and/or internet connection or is the power outage? Then you will also receive such messages via this panel. Nowadays, a smart device can completely or partially replace the control panel.
- Motion detector: It detects movements in all rooms where this device is installed. As soon as this happens, the motion detector reports to the central computer. Bee Alarma Total you can find motion detectors from Jablotron, among others.
- Magnetic contact: a smart way to secure windows and doors. One part is located on the door or window itself and the other on the frame. As soon as the portal is opened, a signal is immediately sent to the central computer. Your Ajax alarm system can be expanded with various wireless magnetic contact models that are characterized by their simple installation.
- Vibration sensor: this identifies 'unusual' movements. This means that opening a window or door in the usual way will not stir up dust. But if a window is smashed, it immediately sends a message to - you guessed it - the central computer, so that you can respond immediately to the situation.
- Siren: Actually, this part needs no explanation. Both local residents and yourself are immediately informed when a burglary occurs.
- Outdoor detection: an example of an efficient - but relatively expensive - system to detect the presence of intruders as quickly as possible. Consider both the classic infrared beam that is interrupted and, for example, ground detection that, as the name suggests, is placed in the ground. If there is more or less pressure on this than usual, your alarm system will immediately receive a notification.
- Security camera: You can install cameras both inside and outside your business premises or home that provide razor-sharp images of your immediate environment via an IP camera. Of course you can respond directly to the events as they are displayed, but they are also intended to recognize intruders and facilitate detection. Thanks to IP camera surveillance from Dahua and Hikvision, among others, you can view the images from your security system anytime, anywhere you want.
- Smoke and carbon monoxide detector: the name actually says it all. This component emits a signal when there is a fire hazard.

Once you have read the above, you will know exactly how a wireless alarm system works. The big difference with wired systems is that the components of wireless alarm systems run on batteries and yes, you will have to replace them over time. That is the only disadvantage: as soon as the batteries start to run out and new ones are needed, you will be notified immediately. In addition to a complete lack of cables, wireless alarm systems are also characterized by their relatively simple installation.
How long does a wireless alarm system last?
Now you know how an alarm system can protect your home or building. But how long exactly does a wireless alarm system last? This depends on various factors, but most batteries last 1 to 1.5 years more. Then they must be replaced. Some batteries last up to 5 years, but that varies per system. In addition, proper maintenance is a factor in the lifespan of alarm systems. Do the parts all still work? Do the lenses of your Hikvision Turbo camera surveillance still provide a sharp image? Do sensors need to be checked or does the software need an update? The latter is of great importance in our current digital age. You also want to be sure that new cameras can be connected to your old security system. This will not cause many problems with our handy Dahua HDCVI camera surveillance. The digital cameras can be connected to your analog system and still provide a perfect image!
Bee Alarma Total we can wholeheartedly recommend that you get to know your alarm system well and keep an eye on developments in software and hardware. This way you know immediately whether your security needs an update or replacement.
