Outdoor IP camera

Do you want to properly protect your home, business premises or grounds? Then an outdoor IP camera is a smart and future-proof choice. Of course, you also want to keep a good view of what is happening around your building at night or in bad weather. You may be unsure about which brand is best, how many megapixels you need or how high you can actually mount a camera. We understand that.

In this guide we explain it calmly and clearly, as if you were standing in our showroom in Gorinchem. This way you discover which outdoor IP camera best suits your situation.

What is an outdoor IP camera?

An outdoor IP camera is a security camera that sends images via the network (IP stands for Internet Protocol) to a recorder, app or computer. Instead of an old-fashioned analog connection, this camera works digitally via a network cable (Ethernet).

That sounds technical, but in practice it is simple:
You connect the camera with one network cable and you can watch live or review images via your smartphone or monitor.

Our outdoor models are:

  • Weatherproof (resistant to rain, wind and cold)

  • Equipped with night vision (good to even superior vision in the dark)

  • Available with PoE (Power over Ethernet) – one cable for power and image

  • Compatible with ONVIF (40 models), so they often work with other systems

Which outdoor IP camera suits you?

On this page you can easily filter according to your wishes. Consider:

Brand

We supply, among other things:

  • Hikvision – professional and very reliable

  • Dahua – strong value for money

  • Reolink – user-friendly and popular with private individuals

  • Eufy – smart solutions with app integration

Are you hesitating between brands? We are happy to show you the difference in image quality in the showroom in Gorinchem.

Type of surveillance camera

You can choose from different models:

  • Bullet camera – recognizable elongated model, ideal for visible deterrence.

  • Dome – compact and vandal-resistant.

  • Turret camera – sleek design, less affected by reflection in the dark.

  • Panorama camera – extra wide image, useful for large areas.

For example, consider a shop where you want to have a good view of the entrance even at night. Then a turret or bullet with 8 megapixels and superior night vision is often a nice solution.

Outdoor camera resolution: how sharp should the image be?

You can choose from:

  • 4 Megapixels

  • 5 Megapixels

  • 8 Megapixels (4K)

  • 12 Megapixels

For an average driveway or backyard, 4 or 8 megapixels are often more than sufficient. Do you want to recognize faces or license plates from a greater distance? Then we recommend 8 or 12 megapixels.

More megapixels means a sharper image, but also more storage space. We are happy to help you find the right balance.

Wired or WiFi?

Most outdoor IP cameras in our range are wired (Ethernet with PoE).

Why? Because a cable is simply more stable. No dropping WiFi signal, no disruptions. With PoE everything runs via one cable. This makes installation clear and reliable.

There is one model with WiFi available, but for fixed outdoor applications we almost always recommend a wired solution.

What is the best outdoor IP camera?

The best IP camera for outdoors does not exist in one model. It depends on your situation.

Do you want maximum reliability and professional image quality? Then a model from Hikvision or Dahua with 8MP and PoE is an excellent choice.

Are you looking for a user-friendly solution for home use? Then Reolink or Eufy can be a perfect fit.

Important points to note:

  • Night vision (good, better or superior)

  • Audio or no audio (microphone or microphone + speaker)

  • Mounting: wall or ceiling

  • SD card function (38 models support this)

With the right choice you can be sure that you don't miss anything.

How high can an outdoor camera be mounted?

A frequently asked question: how high can you place an outdoor camera?

According to the privacy rules (GDPR), you are allowed to film your own property, but not structurally the public road or neighbors.

In practice we recommend:

  • 2.5 to 4 meters height

  • Slightly angled downwards

  • Focused on your own territory

Are you hanging the camera too low? Then he is more vulnerable to sabotage.
Are you hanging it too high? Then you lose detail in faces.

That sounds complicated, but during a consultation we simply look at your situation together.

Why choose Alarma Total?

We don't just supply cameras, we think along with you.

  • 43 models with PoE

  • 40 models with ONVIF

  • Choice of white or black

  • Price range from €0 to €1199
